There’s a whole bunch of mistakes that people often make…
But there is one thing that people certainly shouldn’t do.
We’re all inundated with our phones ringing, all day every day with people trying to sell us double glazing, payment protection insurance and what have you…
I’m aghast at the people who, within the first 2 seconds, have just mentioned my first name and said “how are you”?
They’ve not introduced themselves properly.
They’ve not extended the courtesy of apologising.
I haven’t got a clue why they’re ringing and they think it’s going to constitute a good foundation for them to generate interest in me by enquiring as to how I am.
Why would I be interested in anybody that I don’t know enquiring into my well-being?
But everyone does it.
We’ve mentioned our 5-5-20 formula:
5 seconds to apologise.
5 seconds to introduce yourself.
20 seconds to come up with something compelling.
But everybody says, “how are you?”, which is an insincere attempt at being sincere.
That would be the main mistake anyone can make.
